LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

LITURGY COMMITTEE

The Liturgy Committee oversees the liturgical life of the community of faith at St. Thomas of Canterbury by preparing and implementing Sunday Mass, Rosary before Mass, prayer services, sacramental rites, and the Rites of Initiation. This committee is represented by leaders of the many liturgical ministries.

LECTORS

Lectors are fully initiated Catholics (have received Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation), commissioned to be ministers of the Word of God at Mass and other services. The responsibility of proclaiming God’s Word for the Christian assembly is a humbling and deeply rewarding experience. When the sacred scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to His people. Lectors are called to a deep relationship with God in order that God’s Word may reach the hearts and souls of the listeners.

The Lector proclaims the Word in a way that is respectful, understandable and meaningful to the congregation. They possess a deep love for Sacred Scripture, a reverence for the assembly of believers, and a clear voice necessary for proclaiming God’s Word and leading the assembly in the Prayer of the Faithful.

EXTRA ORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION (Eucharistic Ministers)

Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are fully initiated Catholics (have received Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation), commissioned to serve the Body and Blood of Christ to the assembly at Mass. Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest in distributing the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ at Mass. They can also serve the Parish Community by bringing the Holy Eucharist to those members of the parish who are unable to attend Mass due to illness or disability, the home bound, and residents of the nursing home facilities for which the parish is responsible.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Our music ministers lead us in singing sacred songs that enhance our prayer and Sunday worship. Each Mass has its own coordinator and choir. We also have a Praise and Worship Music Team participated by the youth of our parish that leads us at PRAISE and WORSHIP events.

USHERS

Usher ministers help the assembly by welcoming them to our parish before each masses. They also help people find seats especially on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter Masses. They take up the offering(s) of the assembly and stand ready to help in the event of an emergency.

ALTAR SERVERS (Acolytes)

Altar servers assist the presider during Mass which helps those attending Mass to have a more prayerful experience.

They assist with processing with candles at the start of Mass, holding the Roman Missal for the presider, preparing the altar for Offertory, clearing the altar after Communion.

CHURCH ENVIRONMENT MINSTRY

The “Environment” ministers help with the changing of the liturgical seasons from ADVENT to ORDINARY TIME to LENT to EASTER and back to ORDINARY TIME and all the special feast days within the liturgical year. They create a prayerful worship space, setting, and beautification that frame and enhance our liturgical celebrations.

FLOWER MINISTRY

Flower ministers prepare and care for the floral arrangements, the greenery plants on the sanctuary and in our church space that add beauty to our liturgical celebrations. On special celebrations such as Altar Repose after Holy Thursday, these ministers create and transform Becket Hall into a garden setting for worship and adoration.

LINEN MINISTRY

Members of this group maintain the linens used for our liturgical celebrations by laundry and ironing them, helping provide clean corporals, purificators and towels.
